WHO WE ARE
Hubbard County Food Shelf, INC. is a Non-Profit 501 (c)3 organization. OUR MISSION
The mission of the Hubbard County Food Shelf is to provide food for our clients in order to solve short-term emergency needs. We will carry out this mission with respect for the dignity of the families by keeping information about the clients we serve confidential at all times.

Hubbard County Food Shelf, INC. is dependent on the dedication of its amazing volunteers and our Executive Director, Bob Hansen. We currently have over 100 volunteers at our food shelf, but are always looking for more!
Our
Story
In 1983, Helen Fisher of Park Rapids, Minnesota began a small act of kindness that would later become the official Hubbard County Food Shelf. It all began with no budget, no home base, and just a few volunteers who were determined to make sure no neighbor went hungry. It went from free space in a trunk and a garage, to one of the region's most impactful non-profit organizations. By 1985, the food shelf gained an official non-profit status and could start receiving donations and grow in the community. They relocated the food shelf into an old house by 1991 and then purchased a 4,200 square foot plumbing warehouse in 2011 to turn into what is now the current food shelf space! What started as an emergency food assistance service quickly, turned into an essential and reliable community resource that helps tens of thousands of people.

Bob Hansen
Executive Director
Robert “Bob” Hansen is an experienced county assessor, executive director, and community leader with a career spanning more than four decades across multiple Minnesota counties. His professional background includes serving as Executive Director of the Hubbard County Food Shelf since 2015, following a long tenure in public service as County Assessor in Hubbard, Marshall, Roseau, and Polk counties, as well as Auditor and Chief Deputy roles. He holds credentials as a retired Certified General Real Property Appraiser and Senior Accredited Minnesota Assessor, supported by an Agricultural Business Management degree from the University of Minnesota–Crookston. Throughout his career, he has been deeply involved in statewide and regional professional organizations, including the Minnesota Association of Assessing Officers and the MN Counties Computer Cooperative, where he served on numerous committees and leadership boards.
Bob’s community involvement is equally extensive, with leadership roles in local food shelf operations, senior nutrition advisory councils, school boards, service clubs, and church ministries. His contributions have earned notable recognition, including the AARP Andrus Award for outstanding community service and the Heritage Quilt Award. He has also served as an EMT, 4-H leader, and active member of Jaycees and Lions organizations. Outside of his professional and volunteer commitments, Bob enjoys family life, outdoor activities, and church involvement, with future plans centered on spending time with his ten grandchildren, traveling, and enjoying hunting and fishing.
